Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker (518), Red Gel, 300 mL Cartridge

Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker (518) is a single-component, medium-strength red gel for sealing machined metal flanges, especially aluminum, iron and steel. It cures only when confined without air between close-fitting surfaces, so it does not set outside the joint, and Permatex describes it as non-corrosive to aluminum and cast iron. Repair shops and maintenance crews apply it as a form-in-place gasket on gearbox and engine castings, transmission pans, transfer cases, pumps and housings, or for an on-the-spot repair when a conventional gasket is not available.

The Safety Data Sheet (US OSHA and Canada WHMIS, revision of February 4, 2025) lists the product as a skin irritant (Category 2), serious eye irritant (Category 2A), skin sensitizer (Category 1), possibly carcinogenic (Category 1B) and a repeated-exposure organ toxicant (Category 2); signal word Danger. Wear gloves and eye protection and read the SDS before use. Not for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidizers. Sold per 300 mL cartridge.
