Description
The Starrett 579D is a telescoping gage with a stated range of 1-1/4 to 2-1/8 in (32-54 mm) and a 2-3/8 in (60 mm) handle. It is used to find the true size of holes, slots and recesses by transferring the dimension to a micrometer.
Per the manufacturer, the ends of both contacts are hardened and ground to a radius to give clearance in the smallest hole the gage will enter, and constant spring tension gives uniform contact pressure. Both plungers lock at any setting, and the handle is rigidly attached to the contact plungers and self-centering. The final hole size is taken by measuring over the contacts with a micrometer (not included). Sold as a single gage.
